Often Used Open Guitar Chords

Open Chords are a good starting point for the beginner. Learn a few of these open chords like E Major and E Minor, A Major and A Minor, C Major and G Major first, and practice changing between them over and over again until you’re comfortable. If you play those chords, in that order, for 2 beats each (using your metronome), you are playing a chord progression that has been used in hundreds if not thousands of songs.

Teaching your hands and muscles to memorize your first chords will be the hardest part of learning the guitar. Once you've gotten comfortable forming chords, then you can start the fun part: learning songs. Once you're comfortable with most of these open chords, learn your Barre Chords Based on E and Barre Chords Based on A. Barre chords open up a whole new universe on the guitar.
