Waitin' for the Mountain - Folk Swing
Theme II - Electric Guitar Instrumental
Girl Nextdoor - Southern Rock
Wasted - Classic Rock
I am very lucky to have had Stephen Williams, formerly of Great White, collaborate with me with the finshing touches on "Waitin for the Mountain." Stephen wrote a number of Great White's hits, several of which went platinum, including "Save Your Love," which went triple platinum. Stephen added a funky bass line, a regae backbeat behind the swing feel break topped off by his awesome steel guitar track. His dulcet steel guitar tones make "Waitin' for the Mountain" a song that elicits a mood of casual serenity with just the right touch of laziness.
I wrote the song and am on electric and acoustic guitars, drums, trumpets and the vocals.
Slow down, come sit a spell,
Would you like a cup of tea?
I've been waiting here so long,
Oh, so patiently,
Sittin' around, waitin' for the mountain to come to me.
Slow down, let's take a walk,
Down to the coast out by the sea,
By the ocean things go slow,
Just like in Mayberry,
Sittin' around, waitin' for the mountain to come to me.
Slow down, come lie with me,
We can take a nap till three,
We can dream of all the things,
That hide behind the screen,
Sittin' around, waitin' for the mountain to come to me.
Theme Two is an instrumental melody. My brother Richard is on bass and I'm on all the other parts and recording, mixing and mastering. Although the song has lyrics, I opted to record this one as an instrumental.
Rod Miller of Las Vegas, NV lent his extensive production expertise to "Girl Nextdoor." This was recorded in his studio on traditional 8 track tape. This tune would not have been the same without his ear, arrangement suggestions and his recording skills. In addition to his production savvy, Rod Miller is an outstanding luthier with an unrivaled ability with guitars.
Erik Wicks, also of Las Vegas shows off his outstanding ear and his chicken pickin' chops with his rhythm and lead guitar parts. Erik also lends his voice to the backing vocals.
I handle the acoustic guitars and the vocals.
How come you don't want to play with me,
When I got all the coolest toys,
I got a sandbox come on over here,
I'm a lot more fun than all the other boys.
I just got a big brand new trampoline,
And I can bounce high enough to touch the sky,
Plenty of room on here for the two of us,
We can bounce around or lay back and get high.
You can be the girl nextdoor,
You've even got the freckles on your nose,
I'll pretend to be the guy you dream about at night,
And we'll pretend that we're together when we're grown.
We can take a bike ride around the block today,
I'll meet you right outside the kitchen door,
We can race each other to the corner store,
The loser spends a dollar maybe more.
We can play records and sing harmonies,
Or I got Tonka trucks and we could make mud pies,
Lookie here we'll build ourselves a castle,
And live inside together you and I.
You can be the girl nextdoor,
You've even got the freckles on your nose,
I'll pretend to be the guy you dream about at night,
And we'll pretend that we're together when we're grown.
You can be a movie star,
If you want to be,
You can swim through the stars,
When you're here with me,
We're who we want to be,
Like a feeling floating free and easy,
Never wanting for anything,
Least of all the love within ourselves.
How come you don't want to play with me,
When I got all the coolest toys,
I got a sandbox come on over here,
I'm a lot more fun than all the other boys.
You can be the girl nextdoor,
You've even got the freckles on your nose,
I'll pretend to be the guy you dream about at night,
And we'll pretend that we're together when we're grown.
You can be the girl nextdoor,
You've even got the freckles on your nose,
I'll pretend to be the guy you dream about at night,
And we'll pretend that we're together when we're grown,
We'll pretend that we're together when we're grown.
This tune is about wasted time. My brother Richard was kind enough to lay the bass line on this one and Erik Wicks once again provides his fantastic ear and numble fingers for the guitar lead. The rest of the instruments, vocals and backing vocals were covered by me.
Take a step outside or find a seat my friend,
Find an empty place or step outside,
It's a bitter pill to swallow leaving here,
Wouldn't you rather find a place to hide?
Wake up every morning find that certain face,
The one you keep for only desperate times,
Got to make a new path through the day today,
Wouldn't you rather find a little life?
Wasted, wasted on days gone by,
Stay high,
Don't be a malcontent.
Wasted, wasted on words gone awry,
Stay free,
Don't fall in love.
Take a spot in line or find a seat my friend,
Find an empty place or step outside,
It's a bitter pill to swallow leaving here,
Wouldn?t you rather find a place to hide?
Wake up every morning find that certain face,
The one you keep for only desperate times,
Got to make a new path through the day today,
Wouldn't you rather find a little life?
Wasted, wasted on days gone by,
Stay high,
Don?t be a malcontent.
Wasted, wasted on words gone awry,
Stay free,
Don't fall in love.
Thanks for listening to my tunes. I began 80's Rock Photos with photographer David Plastik back in 2004, but before I became a web designer/developer I was a musician. I began on Trumpet in 8th grade and and played in high school bands until college. From there I studied music composition and performance (trumpet) at Florida State University and afterward toured the Florida Gulf Coast with a blues, rock, original band called Perfect Fifth in the early '90s. Perfect Fifth played a 50/50 mix of original songs and cover tunes to the fun loving, boisterous people who live and work along the Florida Gulf Coast.
